Our Covid-19 response
The worldwide health crisis created by the COVID 19 pandemic has been devastating to families and economies across the globe. Our collective hearts go out to everyone who has been directly affected by this disease; together we share the knowledge that through vigilance and determination we will stop the spread of the virus and protect each other as we adjust our lives and routines to meet the new normal.
The Claddagh Inn did not escape the pandemic ‘s economic impact though thankfully to date none of our team or their families has been infected. The crisis follows several seasons of ongoing operating challenges: the cancellation of direct flights from the UK to St. John’s, the grounding of the Boeing Max-8 aircraft (which cancelled many European flights), and the years-long struggle against illicit black-market unregulated accommodations providers in Newfoundland. The fact that our small operation does not qualify for the major emergency aid initiatives undertaken by government makes it impossible for us to carry-on business in 2021 with a severely reduced season and no idea when the borders will re-open to allow us to welcome visitors and adventurers from across the globe. Carol and I are forced to follow opportunities to augment our revenues in order to keep our Inn warm and safe during the coming winter and to be ready to host guests in 2022.
At this time the new normal for us negates our ability to offer our casual/fine-dining program in 2021 however our guests will still have options for local dining (see our dining opportunities page). Should circumstances change during the coming year re-opening our kitchen will be our highest priority.
We have been fortunate to have a solid community of compliant accommodations enterprises big and small who have been working together with Hospitality Newfoundland to share information and best practices in hygiene in hospitality designed to meet the new challenges before us. The Claddagh Inn cleaning procedures has always exceeded standards; we’ve always made the extra effort and used the most effective products and methods and allotted our staff the extra time needed to keep you and your families safe and comfortable just as our own. In keeping with post-pandemic best practices we’ve augmented our hygienic protocols and infrastructure to keep you and us safe.
